Measure your kitchen: six dimensions

Updated 2026-10-19 · about 6 min read

For a first design six dimensions are enough: wall length per side, room depth, ceiling height, window position, service points and door width. With a tolerance of plus or minus two centimetres we can compensate unevenness in the design. Before production a binding survey follows, because no old building is straight.

The six base dimensions

Measure each wall separately, not just the room length, and write the values on the wall. What matters is the clear length between finished walls. Measure ceiling height at the lowest point, and for slopes additionally the knee line.

  • Wall length per wall, including niches and pillars
  • Room depth at both ends, because rooms are rarely rectangular
  • Ceiling height at the lowest point
  • Window: sill height, width, distance to the corner
  • Services: water, drain, sockets, cooker connection, each with distance to the corner
  • Door width and hinge side, plus leaf height

Four extras that drive the price

Heating, slopes, skirting and wall projections decide fitting pieces later. A radiator under the window shifts base units; a sloped ceiling changes wall unit height. Photograph every wall with a folding rule in the image so the assignment stays unambiguous.

  • Radiator: width, height, distance to floor
  • Slope: clear height at three points and knee line
  • Skirting boards and wall projections in millimetres
  • Floor construction for islands with water connection

Where self-surveyors fail

Three mistakes appear almost always: measuring once in the middle of the room, noting services without height, and recording windows without sill height. Another classic is assuming two opposite walls are parallel. That is exactly why we check every drawing before it goes into production.

What we do with your dimensions

From your readings we build a first floor plan with a module proposal, a 3D view and a price range. You see which wall yields most and where tall units make sense. Only after you approve the design does the survey become binding, then the fixed price follows.

Tolerance and responsibility

We calculate with plus or minus two centimetres because niches and slopes are compensated in the design. Larger deviations need a new survey. For tiles that could crack when drilling, we plan fixing points into joints or uncritical zones.

Frequently asked questions

Are photos enough instead of dimensions?

No. Photos show the situation but not the length. Both together are ideal: one photo per wall plus a dimension sketch.

How exact must I measure?

To the centimetre is enough for the design. We check the values and compensate tolerances in the design.

What does a professional survey cost?

It is listed as a service position. Before production it is binding, because the fixed price follows it.

Do I need to dismantle anything for measuring?

No. Old kitchens are removed only after approval, so you can keep cooking until delivery.

Next step: your fixed price

A floor plan, photos or a sketch is enough. You receive a 3D design, technical drawing and fixed price, with a reply within 48 working hours.
